This 11x14 original oil painting on canvas board, was painted plein air on a sunny, breezy day in early September.  I spent the afternoon on my patio, enjoying the sudden turn of the air to a bearable Fall crispness as I painted the giant Trumpet vine that climbs up our pergola and spreads a canopy of shade over our patio.  This lovely vine always provides the company of hummingbird all summer, with its flashes of unapologetic red trumpet shaped flowers.   
    It's not ver often that I paint a painting in one sitting, but this one seemed to paint itself!  It will always remind me of that magical afternoon welcoming Fall with a paint brush in hand.
