I painted this after a day in the garden a few years back, puling all the end of the season, spent flowers. This is usually a sad task. The sunflowers were not only at the end of their season, but had also been slightly damaged in a summer storm. Most of the flowers I gathered that day ended up in the compost pile. But I just couldn't quite throw away the sunflowers. Maybe it was because I had recently turned fifty, but I found a beauty to the wear and tear and aging process that had taken hold of these sunflowers. So instead, I brought them inside and put them in one of my favorite white pocelein vases with blue designs. I immediately began to paint the beauty in these aging flowers. It seemed like each dropping petal told the story of the experiences of these flowers. It felt like a special time to be able to share that story on canvas.
This print is offered in two sizes - 16x2- on fine art watercolor paper and 8x10 on canvas.
